Bask in the Glow of Victory at These Winning Restaurants
Written by Howard M. Snyder, Restaurant Critic

(April 3, 1998) - What a week! The UK Wildcats won the NCAA championship Monday and the Keeneland Spring Meet starts today. So, for the out-of-towners here to play the ponies, and for the die-hard Wildcat fans still celebrating, here are three restaurants that shouldn't disappoint:

Phil Dunn's CookShop, Ed & Fred's Desert Moon and Furlongs. They aren't far from one another, so if one is already packed, move on to the next.

A Cajun restaurant, Furlongs is one of the nicest affordable restaurants in the city.

Furlongs' menu features such delicacies as grilled quail ($12.75), baked duck ($12.95), soft-shell crabs, crawfish or shrimp etoufee ($10.95), and a whole lot more. When I was there a few weeks ago, I tried the chicken Lafayette ($10.75) - boneless fried chicken with a rich Alfredo sauce. It was mighty, mighty tasty.

Dinner that night, for three, was less than $40 and we all had wine.
